Mission

By challenging the traditional approach to pizza, Zoom Pizza Factory ought to empower its guests to not only feed their body, but their mind and soul. Armed with this lofty mission – plus a speedy new hi-tech pizza oven – Zoom sought to create a unique brand that differentiated it within the fast-casual pizza market, all while attempting to satisfy both Chicago’s health-conscious AND pizza-loving crowd..

Outcome

Empowerment, individuality, and fulfillment: Zoom’s “power words” provided the foundation for the brand’s core strategy. From there, the customer experience was designed with a underlying focus in mind: what feeds the human spirit? Self-expression, satisfaction, wellness — and even courage — manifested into every design element, with a supporting nod from Chicago’s industrial factory roots. As the brand took shape, Zoom’s dream of empowering its customers to craft delicious, individualized pizzas from healthy ingredients aligned beautifully with its core values of altruism, health, and community.

Impact

With its brand strategy so well-anchored in wellness, Zoom Pizza Factory opened its doors to a (not surprisingly) healthy – and quite hungry — crowd of pizza lovers. The intown location served the local college community well, while expansion plans looked on to greater Chicago and the suburbs. A supporting Zoom app later drove the delivery game while Zoom’s executive chef made the rounds on local news and culinary circuits. As predicted, the “water bar” proved to be a hit, garnering exposure to Water.org’s greater mission while cementing a healthier alternative for Chicagoans beyond their typical pizza experience.

Interior Design & Environmental Graphics

With inspiration from Chicago’s industrial roots, the “factory” took shape — resulting in a colorful and interactive environment for all to enjoy. Rotating signage provided a perfect medium for the “Zoom Guy” to deliver brand messages as if he walked off his own factory floor diagrams. Supporting murals, window art, and other environmental treatments reinforced Zoom’s commitment to its fresh, healthy take on a Chicago favorite; and its support of charitable organizations and sustainability were on full display.

Marketing & Social

With excitement building, Zoom’s marketing campaigns were designed to manage both the buzz and logistics of conducting a successful grand opening – with consideration to camaraderie building for the new staff while working out the service flow. Campaigns were delivered across social media, print, and radio, while guerrilla-style events and a fun take on pizza delivery (prior to opening) pulled in the local college demographic.

Menu & Ingredient System

In order to promote a streamlined ordering process, the menu boards guided customers through their order while “Lucille” – the newly christened state-of-the-art pizza oven — did her magic. Ingredients were displayed with supporting iconography that helped guests keep their individual dietary desires front-and-center as they crafted their perfect pie..

Website Development, Staff, and Delivery

Extending the brand to a responsive website, the goal was to educate, inspire, and frankly… make mouths water! While surely the technical information about Zoom’s pizza delivery system was useful to the foodies out there, the website showcased Zoom’s greater mission: highlighting calls-to-action to support its great charitable partners, including Water.org and TheChive.com. Nutritional information reinforced the call for creating meals from natural, organic, and gluten-free ingredients. Uniforms, take-out packaging, and other “goodies” were designed to reflect the brand vibe: professional, individualistic, fun, speedy, modern, fresh, and funky.
